Megan Koch is an emerging artist praised by Theater Jones for her versatility and flexible technique. Emerging midwestern soprano Megan Koch is currently based in DFW where she performs regularly with various organizations such as Opera Arlington, Lewisville Lake Symphony Chamber Recital Series, UNT Opera, and Opera in Concert. A student of internationally renowned Jennifer Rowley, Megan won 1st place in the Young Artist/Emerging Professional Division of the Classical Singer Voice Competition of 2022 and was a finalist in the Lewisville Lake Symphony International Voice Competition. Megan returns to Shreveport Opera this season as a Resident Artist to make her role debut as Violetta in La traviata after making her company debut as Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia) earlier in the season. |
Formerly a Fort Worth Opera Lesley Resident Artist (2020-2022), Megan made her mainstage debut as Annina in La Traviata while also covering Violetta. She was also responsible for Ana Maria in the world premier of Hector Armentia's new opera, Zorro. Megan sang in scenes programs, a few different children's operas, a recital, and a moving-opera project through the streets of Fort Worth entitled, Manon on the Move which included excerpts from Massenet's Manon and narrations. Megan represented FWO as a featured soloist with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in "America Strong", which was broadcasted on ABC on July 4, 2020.
Megan was part of the FWO Studio Artist program for the 19/20 season and premiered the role of Mariana and Grandmother in a family opera, Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World by Illick and Campbell. Simultaneously at UNT Opera, she debuted the roles of Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni )and Zan (Regina). In 2019, she was invited to the Czech Republic to sing in the modern premiere of two lost operas by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer in the Olomouc Baroque Festival. She was a Division Winner in the UNT Concerto Competition, a finalist in the Classical Singer Competition and Lewisville Lake Symphony International Voice Competition.
In the 18/19 season, Megan studied at the Janaček Academy in Brno, Czechia for her debut in the title role of The Cunning Little Vixen which she toured through Czech communities in Texas after the full production at the UNT Czech Festival in December. While in Czechia, she performed as a soloist in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in the Hussite Church in Olomouc. She also sang in a brand new, dramatic Rogers and Hammerstein Revue (If I Loved You . . .) at UNT. Megan performed the role of Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) at the Varna International Opera Academy in Bulgaria.
In the 17/18 season, Megan “shimmered with nuance” (The Column Online) as Mabel (Mabel’s Call) in the 2018 Frontiers Showcase with Fort Worth Opera. She made her UNT debut as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and she debuted Rose (Street Scene) and La princesse (L’enfant et les sortilèges) at the Varna International Opera Academy.
Megan earned her Master of Music in vocal performance and her Graduate Artist Certificate in Opera at the University of North Texas (UNT). She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University.
